CITY FATHERS, ABERDEEN | ORIGINAL JAN CLIZER PAINTING
28" x 32" Oil on Canvas
Schoolhill in the centre of old Aberdeen is a fascinating area, full of ooollllddd stone buildings & ‘dripping’ with history. St Nicholas Church looms over a green & ancient cemetery, one of whose living residents is this incredibly gnarled tree. The contrasts of living limb & cold stone on a blustery early spring day inspired this painting. I have since learned that St. Nicholas is termed the 'Mither Church' to the north of Scotland.... ah well....!
